"Just Another Day in Paradise" (How cliche!!)

Sawateeskhob from another day in sunny Thailand. Ma called and woke me up this morning to tell me it was -29C in Winnipeg. That sure cured my grumpy mood I had inherited from rinsing out my soggy,sweaty t-shirts from the night before..LOL.

I put Dennis on a bus to Bangkok last week to catch his flight home. Things were hauntingly quite for a few days until a recent acquaintance, Gerry from Lake Simcoe, (north of Toronto) flagged me down on the beach and, soon, I was invited to an ex-pats meeting to make come contacts for future visits. I made the first meeting today but ducked out of the general meeting, awaiting a return invite. "Don't wear out your welcome" has always been one of my mantras.

Things get better and better every day as I become more familiar with the demographics and the customs and the language. I found it funny to listen to a few of the ex-pats talk about medical services here and the difrferent expeiences they were encountering, when, I shared my inaugural visitation to a local dentist in Jomtien Beach and recounted the services I had contracted and the fees I paid. Before I could catch a new breath to finish my recount, the American from Houston (resided here for 12 yrs) asked where my dentist was located. I quickly realized that we all had something to contribute, even me, the new guy. LOL.Cheers.

Its snowing its snowing the old man is…. errrr, in the hospital. Pops had to be taken to the hospital earlier this week. Test showed he had water on the lungs and he has to visit with the medical staff until it’s cleared up. I have to be there for work next week so he better up and about so we can hang for a spell. What with, the medical system being what it is, its good to be in the observation unit. I had cause to take my buddy Gar to the emergency in Surrey on a recent visit (not that recent) and we sat in the emergency room for hours…some emergency frequenters go to any lengths to get free dressings and aspirins rather than spend $5 in the pharmacy. Too bad it clogs it up for legitimate medical emergencies. Ohhhh well, the alternative to social medicare is not very appealing either. Nuff on my rambling...get well Pop. Lets get back to the snow. Ya better watch out, Ya better not pout....

Driving down the road to Kingsville the other day, my beloved Val seemed quite unsettled about the fact that we were, soon, passing by her 40th birthday and zooming in on Xmas and there was no snow to be seen anywhere in our neighbourhood. Now, that really is not all that unusual in our neck of the woods, but she seemed right agitated. Never really gave it much tought, but, while in Montreal this week, I snapped a pic from my hotel window towards Westmount, and, "loe and behold" it is December 17 and ne'er a flake to be seen. Have a peek, see? It occurred to me , as well, I called my folks in Winnipeg a few days ago, and they reported the weatherman was forecasting rain. RAIN.........RAIN. Be still my heart, well Santa really has arrived, when folks in Winnipeg are not freezing their butts off in December. Or has he??? Can you beleive that? Now I dont recall the last time I did not have a white Xmas, but I do want one. It just dont seem Kosher to have Xmas without snow ...

"Well it looks like we are going to have a white Christmas after all," Kevin said, "it finally feels like Christmas", regarding the heavy snowfall on the drive to his work this morning. That is pretty much typical for a Winnipegger that's moved to Essex County. I remember the first Xmas I had herein Windsor Essex County, and it snowed Xmas eve. Sweet Pea Valerie and I were in some kinda funk that we were going to have to experience a green Xmas (which is a bitter sweet phenomena for Winnipeggers, because, we dream of such a thing when living in the prairies, but go into culture shock when thrust into a green Xmas). I remember my folks saying, "it might be a green Xmas this year", when the snow had not yet arrived, on the prairies, at November's end. Have no fear of that, was going through our youthful prairie minds. Speaking of youthful...its my mother's birthday tomorrow.
